Every couple of months starting from now we’ll laying ourselves bare in front of an artist and getting them to cover our space. ooh and indeed, err. This month, the crisp white walls of our boardroom, our small meeting room and a few choice blank spaces have been commandeered by design duo Crispin Finn and they get to cover them as they see fit.

First off Crispin Finn came in to take a look a look around and get under the skin of Brothers and Sisters.  They picked up on our love for re-found objects and our appreciation for design of yore and went away to create.  The results are brilliantly retro, nostalgia inducing prints which have you remembering everything from Nice biscuits and Beano to those weird tunnock cakes you’d get at the school tuck shop. Plus, as they’re created bespoke for us and our office, they’re one of a kind. Now that is NICE.

Obviously, we’d love to have you round to take a look close up, but here’s a sneak preview of how they look.

Before you spit your mince pie out in disgust, think about it. It’s accessible to everyone, easily available, is never obsolete when a new version comes out, children adore it, adults secretly love it,it’s educational, encourages creativity and above all, it’s fun. It lasts forever, doesn’t need batteries, is backwards compatible and future-proof (take note people like Apple and Microsoft), can be handed down lovingly through generations and is classic yet current (just take a look at the Batman, Harry Potter, and Marvel Superheroes sets). It’s so popular they now make video games about it, have dedicated shops selling it, run 6 theme parks around the globe and have even made the Christmas tree in St Pancras out of it.

If not, humour me for a little longer. Lego really is amazing stuff. Amazebricks. Some facts to help me out here:

- There are 62 bricks for every person on the planet
- There are 915 million ways to combine six LEGO bricks
- Lego are the largest manufacturer of tyres (318 million a year) in the world.

There is no limit to what you can build with it. Sure, we all started off with a house and a plastic green tree but there’s more to it than that. You just need to use your imagination a little. If that’s not happening, check out some of these for inspiration:

When I was in secondary school I can honestly say I loved nearly every lesson I was in, but for some reason science was my least favourite. Every Thursday coming into school looking at that double period of Physics filled me with dread.  Going into the same room, taught by the same teacher, most probably wearing the same plain woollen jumper, talking in the same monotone voice, working from the same old torn textbook, well, you catch my drift. I just never learnt anything within that boring environment and it’s a shame to say, with no surprise I failed science.

Today, however, I absolutely, undoubtedly, bloody love science. It totally amazes me how our planet actually works. What I love about science is that most of it sounds like it was written by some guy in his room, high as hell spouting out ridiculous facts that no-one in the right mind would believe.

Some pretty amazing facts for you:

• Look around you now. Everything you see is made of the same thing, your laptop, coffee cup, and lampshade even that pigeon out the window. We all originated from the same ingredients cooked up millions of years ago, which eventually assembled itself together into everything around you today, including you. So next time someone asks you what are you made of? You can just pick up anything around you and say “I am made of *Insert item here*”

• Look up into the sky tonight, search for Orion’s Belt, just above that on the left hand side you’ll find a really bright star called Betelgeuse. Lying 430 light years away Betelgeuse is a dying star and could explode within our lifetime. The explosion will be so powerful that it will add a second sun to Earth’s sky.

• Butterflies taste with their hind feed.

• A hummingbird weighs the same as a penny.

• The human body reproduces a new skeleton every 10 years.

• Infants blink around 1 to 2 times a minute while adults average around 10.

• Every human has a unique thumb print, they also have a unique tongue print.

So you may be thinking ‘why on earth is this girl talking about science on an advertising blog?’ Well I believe advertising creatives think much like scientists. We see things around us and absorb them, learn from them and use them. We constantly question life and experiment; combining different elements together to make unique and fresh ideas. Briefs are just equations to be solved, so don’t think of yourself as an advertiser, think of yourself as an Idea Scientist.

I’d say I’m a frequent Internet user, in fact I use the Internet for pretty much everything. A good portion of the day is spent trawling through webpages or having a nose on social media and I don’t often come across the same thing twice, but I can’t quite believe how often I bump into a cat on my travels. Honestly, I’ve seen more cats on the internet in one day than I’ve ever eaten sandwiches.

Here are some of the web’s finest cats for you to have a prowl through.

There are A LOT of useful websites out there. Way too many to visit in a day, or even a lifetime. The sites I visit most for help are all obvious ones – no surprises here – but you wouldn’t believe how many of these my friend had never heard of. So here is my bookmark bar’s most used.

Howstuffworks.com – this site is a treasure trove of awesomeness. It’s proper geek territory but it’s got a hell of a lot of usefulness going on. Heavily science biased, it tells you everything you need to know about just about anything. In fact, it tells you WAY more than you need to know. A lie down is often required after a surf on this site.

Lifehacker.com – This site’s motto is: Don’t live to geek; geek to live! This would have been my life motto had I thought of it first. The site has a great selection of ‘how to’ guides, and a lot of time saving tips. Its food and home section is good, as is the IT section. I got a lot more out of gmail thanks to this site. (geek)

Xe.com/ucc – ok, so it’s not the prettiest of sites, but then neither is the business of currency conversion. Having tried many different currency converters, this one wins out. Also available in handy smartphone app size.

IMDB.com – I have the worst memory ever for films, actors names, plotlines, directors etc. IMDB is an endless mine of information (often whilst watching the film). Yesterday, I discovered that the Deputy Commissioner in The Wire (John Doman) played a foreman in Die Hard With A Vengeance. How I lived without this information till then I do not know. And, I will have forgotten it again by tomorrow but that’s OK because IMDB is always there to remind me.

Skyscanner.net – set up by three clever people in Scotland, skyscanner is the only way to find flights. Its genius lies in its versatility. You can search for flights from country to country and it’ll list all the flights from all the airports in whichever order you want. The search by month option is great to see when the cheapest flights are. In short, I wouldn’t book a flight without checking here first.

Foodily.com – A quite recent discovery, this site is brilliant for aggregating excellent recipes from around the web. It could do with a bit of a wider base of sites to trawl and it’d be amazing if you could toggle the measurement units between imperial and metric, but it’ll do for now.

Lastly, I have to mention Google. We all know it’s above useful. More like absolutely essential. But there are some great tools from Google beyond the search engine. Like if you type in ’10ibs in grams’ it’ll automatically just tell you the answer instead of sending you to a site. Usefulness by stealth right there. I don’t know where I’d be (quite literally) if it weren’t for Google maps directions function and don’t even get me started on the live traffic data. Too good. Oh and Google translate is pretty great.

It seems that the key to a useful site is not just the data in it, but the way you access that data. It’s what all the sites above have in common. Ultimate usability. Information is truly beautiful.
