Are we nearly there yet?

How many times have your little sprogs uttered that phrase from the back seats? Probably nearly as many times as they shout “I’m bored”. Well, they shall utter it no more. Because I saw this great little app from Toyota’s in-house mobile development team the other day and it solves both those quandaries. The app lets kids drive along the same route you are travelling using GPS both predicting the turns ahead as well as integrating real world objects that can be collected for points. But the brilliant thing about this, other than keeping the kids quiet, is the gamification of a very ordinary and very necessary everyday activity. This app enhances a real life experience. Wouldn’t it be great if we could gamify other necessary daily activities, like washing up or dusting?

Londinium is live

Fans of Latin-themed iPhone products – and who isn’t? – can head over to the app store and download our new addition to the Museum Of London portfolio. Yes, Streetmuseum Londinium is now available on iPhone and iPad. And it won’t cost you a penny. You can dig, watch, listen and generally swot up on all things Roman. You may have seen it featured on ITV’s London Tonight, if you live in this here London Town. Happy app-ing.

Crazy creatures

As I sauntered into the office this morning not only was I greeted by the lovely Laura on reception but also a pigeon that appears to have been graffitied above her head. Rather taken aback by this I asked her if she had done it, if it was her new tag? She assures me it wasn’t her and that there where others dotted around the office. Sure enough, I was able to locate a squirrel, 2 frogs, an owl, a life size horse and a little robin.
As it turns out they where made by the street artist Stewy, who snuck in in the dead of night and graffed the place up. If you like what you see head over to his flickr or keep your eyes peeled on the streets of London.

Sky Sports Start of Season

The brief was to bring the new football season to life in an original way. With Sky’s internal brand team we set out to make something visceral and raw.

We sent ex-cinematographer and top director Ivan Bird out to 8 end of season football matches with the brief ‘capture football as it’s never been seen before’.

Ivan filmed on Canon 5Ds which allowed him the freedom to capture the experience in the stadium in its rawest and most truthful form. The film is currently in cinemas nationwide and will hit your telly boxes on the 25th. And be warned. It’s quite emotional.

Streetmuseum Londinium

Yes you read it right, we have made a brand-spanking-new app for our friends at the Museum of London. Now smartphone users can immerse themselves in our capital’s Roman origins too. The new app is also truly interactive as you can now watch augmented reality videos and even ‘dig’ up your own archaeological artifacts. We are very proud of our latest creation and hope iPhone and iPad users will enjoy it just as much, if not more than the original Streetmuseum. Streetmuseum Londinium will be available to download on 25th July, so in the meantime you can read what the lovely people at the Metro and The Times have to say about it.

Fab’s adventures in maple syrup.

Sister Fabia just got back from a few days in Montreal, working with our lovely clients at the McCord Museum. She tried and tested all the different types of maple syrup-related desserts and sweets and then spent her time walking around the city – slightly hyper – geo-tagging its many beautiful and historical buildings (there’s an Old and a New Montreal, you know). But in all seriousness, watch this space for new developments from our digital team. Their labours of love are coming soon.

And the winner is…

Who knows. But Kirsty has just finished 8 hours after she set off.
With legs of steel, pumping like pistons and now probably as wobbly  as camembert, she deserve massive congratulations along with a stiff G&T.

Well done.

And they’re off.

Received this in the old inbox this morning at 6:18am. An early start for sure. Kirsty is thundering through this stage and is already halfway having tackled the 30km 11% incline with ease.

Tour D’Etape update

Time is getting close for our two lovely Etapers Kirsty and Ivan. Kirsty sets off on Monday to scale the hills of her 109 km route. Kirsty is raising money for Get Kids Going, which is an amazing charity that helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. Ivan will be doing it the following Sunday, 17th to be precice, and will be tackling act 2. A gruelling 208 km through the beautiful landscapes of Puy de Dôme, Haute-Loire and Cantal department. Ivan is taking part as part of the Sky Etape team and has been gifted with his very own (rather fetching) Sky jersey. Its even got his name on it.

So I hope you will all join us in wishing them the very best of luck.
