This was Sky Sports “Guinness Surfer”. A truly iconic spot that will resonate for many years to come as Sky’s definitive statement on football. For years Sky were resented as holding football fans to ransom for dominating the rights to the Premier League. This spot flipped that completely on it’s head and instead showed how Sky has created the greatest football league in the world. Sky Sports was cemented as part of football’s true heritage. It was Facebook’s most successful film ever broadcast in EMEA. In three days it was watched by 22 million people. The week of launched it was the 4th most watched film of any kind on the entire internet. The Telegraph voted it one the ten greatest football ads ever made. The Mirror described it as “the greatest thing in history of the universe”. Thierry Henry was tres content.
Underneath the launch ad, we analysed Facebook data to work out which club fans supported. Then we fed them famous moments relevant to their team.
We created a vas, content rich website where fans could endlessly pore over their favourite moments and pick their faves.
Inspired by the success of the campaign, Sky Sports made a season preview show based on our idea.
